Biography
Dr. Heather Smith earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology from the University of California, Riverside, after completing a Master of Science in Plant Biology at UC Davis and an Honors Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Chemistry minor from the University of Utah. Dr. Smith began her academic career as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pomona College and later served as an Assistant Professor at Citrus College before joining Riverside City College (RCC). As a Distinguished Professor at RCC, she teaches General Biology, Microbiology, Soil Science, and Health Science. A passionate advocate for student experiential learning, Dr. Smith collaborates to place RCC students in research positions at four-year universities, providing them with invaluable hands-on experience to advance their academic and professional goals. Since 2006, Dr. Smith has secured federal funding for her research and served on numerous scientific review panels. She has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications on environmental toxicology and air quality disparities and holds patents on innovative bio-containment solutions for infectious events. |
